The Ridgefield girls soccer team claimed its first district title since 2005 and earned a home state playoff match next week with a 2-0 win over Montesano on Thursday in the Class 1A district title match at Kalama.

Morgan Atchley scored both goals for the Spudders (17-0). The first came in the closing seconds of the first half off an assist from Megan Fox. The second goal came with about seven minutes to play.

Corey Hanson recorded eight saves in goal to preserve the shut out.

Ridgefield coach Robby Trimbo said the Spudders received a big defensive effort from Amanda Coulimore, while Courtney Potter helped create scoring opportunities.

Ridgefield, as the No. 1 seed, will host a first-round state playoff match either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Black Hills def. Hockinson on PKs — Black Hills outscored Hockinson 3-2 in the penalty-kick shootout on Thursday to win the Class 2A District 4 girls soccer championship match at Battle Ground District Stadium.

The teams played to a scoreless draw through 90 minutes, including 10 minutes of overtime, before the tiebreaker.

Both teams advance to the Class 2A state tournament. Hockinson will host a first-round state playoff match against an opponent to be determined at 7 p.m. next Tuesday at Battle Ground District Stadium.

Hannah Charles and Aurora Bodenhamer converted penalty kicks for the Hawks. But Hockinson shooters missed in the first and fourth rounds of the shootout.

Hockinson coach Vic Oenning praised the performance of his defense. He said Hockinson outshot Black Hills 12-7 in the match, but couldn’t convert on a few quality scoring chances.

Mark Morris 2, Washougal 0 — The Monarchs won at Washougal to keep their season alive. The Panthers were eliminated. Mark Morris must win one more match on Saturday at Centralia to advance to state. No details from this match were provided.
