Schools extend invite to veterans

Assemblies being held at many sites

Calling all veterans: Your local public school wants you.

The Battle Ground and Evergreen districts have rolled out a large welcome mat for all armed services veterans, who are invited to attend any of several Veterans Day school assemblies prior to the Nov. 11 commemoration Thursday, including:

• Pleasant Valley Middle School in the Battle Ground district will host a school assembly at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Directed by sixth-grade teacher Amy Pace, the event is themed “The Long Brave Line” and will honor veterans across U.S. history. The Prairie High School Air Force Junior ROTC color guard will present the flag and Pleasant Valley’s band will perform, while eighth-graders will make special presentations. Pleasant Valley is at 14320 N.E. 50th Ave. Call 360-885-5500.

Evergreen district schools have scheduled many events next week.

Monday:

• Heritage High School, Veterans Day USO Show, 7:50 a.m. Activities include a full USO show, classroom visits by veterans and lunch for veterans served by students, 7825 N.E. 130th Ave., 360-604-3400.

• Burnt Bridge Creek Elementary School, 2 p.m. assembly, 14619-A N.E. 49th St., 360-604-6750.

Tuesday:

• Burton Elementary School, 9 a.m. assembly, a sing-along with the Pacific Middle School band, 14015 N.E. 28th St., 360-604-4975.

• Image Elementary School, assemblies at 9:30 and 10:15 a.m., musical tribute with the American Legion Musicians Post 185 band, 4400 N.E. 122nd Ave., 360-604-6850.

• Mountain View High School, 9:30 a.m. assembly features performances by the wind ensemble and concert choir, with speaker Army Spc. Zach Rosling, a 2008 Mountain View graduate, 1500 S.E. Blairmont Drive, 360-604-6100.

• Endeavour Elementary School, 1:15 p.m. assembly features patriotic songs by each grade level and the American Legion Musicians Post 185 band, 2701 N.E. Four Seasons Lane, 360-604-4920.

Wednesday:

• Covington Middle School, 8:30 a.m., a musical salute to community veterans, 11200 N.E. Rosewood Road, 360-604-6300.

• Pacific Middle School, seventh/eighth-grade assembly at 8:30 a.m., sixth-grade assembly at 9:30 a.m. Each includes presentation of colors by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, recognition of employee veterans; Veterans Day art and writings by students; and band, orchestra and choir performances, 2017 N.E. 172nd Ave., 360-604-6500.

• Sifton Elementary School, 9:25 a.m. assembly, 7301 N.E. 137th Ave., 360-604-6675.

• Harmony Elementary School, 9:45 a.m. assembly includes songs, poems and student readings, 17404-A N.E. 18th St., 360-604-6600.

• Hearthwood Elementary School, 9:45 a.m. assembly features student Girl Scout color guard, all-school singing, student readings and tribute slide show, 360-604-6875.

• Evergreen High School, 10:50 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. veterans’ lunch with students and veterans on staff, a bulletin board tribute from the Evergreen community, 14300 N.E. 18th St., 360-604-3700.
