SD State easily beats Point Loma in exhibition

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Kawhi Leonard scored 18 of his 20 points in the first half to lead No. 25 San Diego State to a 92-54 exhibition win over Point Loma on Monday night.

Malcom Thomas added 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Aztecs, who are ranked in the Top 25 for the first time in 41 seasons of Division I play.

After Point Loma scored the first basket 40 seconds in, the Aztecs ran off 18 straight points en route to a 52-23 halftime lead. Leonard had the final 11 points of the run on a 3-pointer, a fastbreak layup and two three-point plays.

Greg Murray led Point Loma with 11 points.

Billy White also scored 14 points for San Diego State, which held a 48-29 rebounding edge over its NAIA crosstown opponents.

The Aztecs open the regular season Saturday at Long Beach State, the first of five straight games away from home.
