NEW YORK (AP) — Noted tattoo artist Jonathan Shaw has been charged with keeping a cache of guns, knives and ammunition in a New York City storage locker and prosecutors say he tried to ship the weapons to his Los Angeles home.

Shaw, a son of late jazz great Artie Shaw, was being held on $250,000 bond after his arraignment Monday on charges including weapons possession. Shaw’s lawyer said all the weapons were bought legally 15 or more years ago. He said Shaw is “a peaceful man” who had “no intent to use” the weapons.

Prosecutors say a moving company worker spotted boxes of ammunition Saturday in a suitcase Shaw was shipping. They say police recovered an AK-47 assault rifle, a shotgun, two rifles, 96 knives and more than 2,800 rounds of ammunition.
