MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Tiger Woods has arrived in Melbourne to defend his Australian Masters golf title, a year after his visit to the city sparked reports of infidelity which damaged his career and tarnished his public image.

Woods hasn’t won a title since last year’s Masters at Kingston Heath and last week lost the world No.1 ranking he held for 281 weeks to England’s Lee Westwood.

Last year, the presence of a woman alleged to have been Woods’ guest at his Melbourne hotel led to revelations of infidelities that derailed his professional life and ended his marriage to Elin Nordegren, with whom he has two children.

Woods’ private jet touched down at Essendon Airport near Melbourne early Tuesday morning. He will make his first public appearance at a gala dinner in Melbourne Tuesday night.
