OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Olympia police say a 22-year-old transient man survived being run over by a train while sleeping next to a railroad track early Tuesday morning.

Olympia police Cmdr. Tor Bjornstad says it appears the train ran over the man’s arms. He says officers responding to the aid call were surprised he was able to run from the spot of the accident to get help. Residents called police after the man began screaming for help near downtown Olympia.

Bjornstad says the man was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. His condition is unknown.

Bjornstad says the train was owned by Tacoma Rail. He says the company was not aware one of its trains had hit a person.
