ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) — A Portland engineering firm has found that a majority of Ashland residents would use bicycles regularly to commute if the city improved its bike lanes.
The study from Kittelson & Associates Inc. found that only about 7 percent of Ashland residents are comfortable with the city’s bike network of trails and lanes, or would ride in any condition.
The city is reworking its Transportation System Plan over the next year.
Sixty percent of residents say they’re “interested but concerned” with the network’s safety.
The study recommends the creation of separate or buffered bike lanes on busy streets, as well as more cross-town routes that don’t rely on main thoroughfares.
