YANGON, Myanmar (AP) — Lawyers for Myanmar democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi say a court has rejected her final appeal against her house arrest conviction.
The decision was expected, partly because Suu Kyi’s term of house arrest expires on Saturday and there is wide speculation she will be freed.
Lawyer Nyan Win said Thursday that the Special Appellate Bench in the remote capital of Naypyitaw posted its decision outside the court and provided no explanation.
Suu Kyi has been detained for 15 of the past 21 years.
She was sentenced to an additional 18 months in prison in August and had already lost two previous appeals.
