MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — State Senate Republican leaders are spending money this week in an effort to urge voters clear up last-second signature problems while Republican Dave Dotterrer tries to overcome Democratic Sen. Alan Bates’ lead in a tight race.

Bates increased his lead to 305 votes over Dotterrer in Jackson County by the end of vote counting on Tuesday.

The Mail Tribune reports that the Oregon GOP is paying for automatic calls to Jackson County households.

Those who get the call push a button and are automatically connected to the Jackson County Elections Center.

Jackson County Clerk Chris Walker says her office was inundated by calls on Tuesday, and says they prevented the office from dealing with other business.
