WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Department of Interior has approved land trust acquisitions for the Puyallup and Suquamish Indian tribes in Washington state.
The Puyallup tribe has a reservation near Tacoma, while the Suquamish tribe resides in Kitsap County.
Assistant Secretary of Indian Affairs Larry Echo Hawk announced approval Wednesday for the two tribes to acquire land into their respective trusts to be used for activities related to their existing casinos.
Echo Hawk said neither tribe sought approval of gaming activities to be conducted on the newly acquired lands.
