ADELAIDE, Australia (AP) — Two-time winner Andre Greipel of Germany will defend his title at January’s Tour Down Under, the first event of the 2011 Pro Tour.

Greipel, who won the race in 2008 and again in January, will ride for the first time for Omega Pharma-Lotto after leaving his previous team, HTC Columbia, at the end of the 2010 season.

Race director Mike Turtur says “Greipel is a formidable sprinter” and it “will be interesting to see if he can be the first rider to win three editions.”

Seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong also will compete in the race, which runs from Jan. 16-23.
