PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Oregonian says documents in an Oregon lawsuit suggest that managers for Kellogg, Brown and Root had medical tests indicating workers at an Iraqi water treatment plant being guarded by National Guard troops had significant exposure to the toxic chemical hexavalent chromium.
The newspaper reports that the documents also indicate the managers worried about KBR’s liability as a result.
Hundreds of National Guard soldiers were deployed early in the Iraqi war to guard civilian contractors at the plant. Among them were 34 Oregon Guard soldiers who have sued KBR, alleging they were exposed to the chemical and now suffer skin, stomach and breathing problems and face a greater risk of cancer.
KBR has denied any wrongdoing.
