WALLA WALLA, Wash. (AP) — Pioneer Middle School in Walla Walla took part in “Mix It Up at Lunch Day.”

Students were urged to move around and sit with other people at lunch Tuesday to make new friends.

It was part of a national campaign launched by the Southern Poverty Law Center to teach tolerance and fight bullying.

The Walla Walla Union-Bulletin reports a group of Walla Walla Community College students were at the school to sit at lunch tables and direct conversations about cliques.

Principal Dana Jones says most students end up sitting with small groups of friends but “Mix It Up at Lunch Day” gets them talking.
