Talking Points 11/12

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

Let’s assume everything stays as it is. Oregon and Auburn meet in the BCS Championship game.

If you’re Oregon or even a fan of the Ducks, here’s a couple of scenarios to consider:

1) Auburn’s Cam Newton is suspended prior to the title game and maybe the Ducks run over the Tigers in yawner, non-competitive 56-7 title game.

2) Cam Newton plays in the title game and maybe the Tigers beat the Ducks. Then somewhere down the road Newton is found to be ineligible and the Tigers have to forfeit the national title, thus leaving it vacant.

Is either of these good?

Dave Niehaus, who died Wednesday of a heart attack at age 75, is being remembered all weekend on FSN (Comcast cable Channel 34) with a series of previously produced shows.

Mariners fans can see and hear Niehaus again in four programs:

• “Niehaus: My First Trip to Cooperstown”

• “In My Own Words: Dave Niehaus”

• “Northwest Top 10: Niehaus Calls”

• “Niehaus: My Life in Baseball”

The programs began re-airing on Thursday. They will also air today from 4-6 p.m., Saturday from 10:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m., and Sunday from 10 p.m. to midnight.

The Seattle Times has also put together a collection of Niehaus’ famous calls, among other memories, on their website at www.seattletimes.com.
