PITTSBURGH (AP) — B.J. Monteiro, Sean Johnson and Mike Talley each scored 17 points Saturday night as Duquesne opened its season with a 110-67 rout of short-handed Bluefield State.

Monteiro (10 rebounds) and Rodrigo Peggau (14 points, 12 rebounds) had double-doubles for the Dukes, who held the Big Blues without a field-goal attempt for the first 4:52 of the game. The Dukes outrebounded Bluefield State (0-2), which had only seven players in uniform, 54-26.

Duquesne, which played without suspended All-Atlantic 10 forward Damian Saunders, placed six players in double-figures with Bill Clark (15 points), and T.J. McConnell (13) adding to the Big Blues’ miseries.

Bluefield State shot well in the second half (17 of 25 from the field for 68 percent), but couldn’t dent a 26-point halftime deficit. Julius Lang’s 22 points led the Big Blues, but he struggled at the free-throw line, making 8 of 19.
