SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The Spokane County sheriff’s office says a marijuana growing operation was found at the house where an armed man who shot at police first opened fire.

The man was shot and killed by Spokane police Friday after he fired a shotgun at a home, then led officers through a busy neighborhood while firing his weapon at them and into the air.

Detectives found marijuana inside that home and inside the man’s home.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Reagan says authorities were told Friday afternoon that the man had fired a half-dozen shots at a home where he and his father were visiting. The man drove off in a pickup truck, but stopped on a busy north Spokane street. He began walking away, firing shots into the air and at police.

Reagan says the man refused orders to drop the weapon and was fired upon by six patrolmen. He died at the scene. No one else was injured.

The man’s name has not yet been released.
