Filzen, McCrea lead Buffalo past Navy 88-46

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Zach Filzen scored 18 points and Javon McCrea had a double-double to lead Buffalo to an easy 88-46 victory over Navy on Saturday in the season opener for both teams.

McCrea finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds in 13 minutes of play for the Bulls. Byron Mulkey had 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Dave Barnett added 13 points and six boards.

Buffalo scored the first seven points of the contest, as the Bulls pushed their lead to 17-4 on a dunk by McCrea. Filzen knocked down a 3-pointer with 14 seconds left in the first half to push Buffalo’s margin to 26 points.

The Bulls had their largest lead at 42 points.

Buffalo shot 47 percent from the field (35 for 74), made 11 3-pointers, blocked 11 shots and grabbed 19 offensive rebounds. The Bulls also won the rebounding advantage 56-31.

Greg Brown led the Midshipmen with 11 points.
