For the 13th year in a row, Santa’s Posse is gearing up to provide food baskets and gifts for local families in need. The posse is spearheaded by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with Rotary Clubs of Clark County, Fire District 6, Vancouver and Evergreen school districts and Kindercare Learning Centers.

“Each year, we receive hundreds of requests for assistance, and over the years, we have provided food baskets and gifts for thousands of Clark County families,” a statement from the posse says. “Last year, with the help of scores of volunteers, corporate contributions and donations from school children around the county, we were able to provide Christmas for 400 families with 1,211 children. This year, our goal is to provide assistance to another 400 families.”

From Nov. 15 through Dec. 10, donations of new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages, as well as nonperishable food, toiletries and cash are accepted.

Donations can be dropped off at any Clark County Sheriff’s Office or headquarters; all Fire District 6 stations; Alpine Autobody locations and Kindercare Learning Centers.

Monetary donations are tax deductible and can be mailed to Santa’s Posse, PO Box 410, Vancouver, WA 98666.

Also, Santa’s Posse will host a breakfast from 7-10 a.m. Dec. 2 in the lower lobby of the Sheriff’s Office at 707 W. 13th St., serving ham, assorted fruit and beverages. Donations will be accepted.

Gifts will be wrapped and food baskets assembled beginning at 5 p.m. Dec. 13 at the unoccupied Best Buy store at 9308 N.E. Fifth Ave., just south of the C-Tran mall in Hazel Dell. Volunteers are welcome, and a light dinner will be provided. Volunteers are asked to bring two canned or boxed food items.
