Balanced Ball State downs Eastern Illinois 77-46

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Jauwan Scaife had 19 points and three teammates scored in double figures to lead Ball State to a 77-46 victory over Eastern Illinois on Sunday.

Jarrod Jones and freshman Jesse Berry each had 15 for the Cardinals, who won their season opener. Jones had a game-best 10 rebounds, and Berry hit a game-high three 3-pointers in his collegiate debut. Randy Davis added 13 points.

Scaife’s total was one shy of his career high.

Jeremy Granger scored 11 points and Tyler Laser 10 for the Panthers (0-2), who shot just 31.4 percent (16 of 51).

Eastern Illinois committed 21 turnovers to just seven for Ball State.

The Cardinals opened the game with an 8-0 spurt. Curry McKinney’s jumper with 6:19 left in the first half finally got the Panthers into double figures as they trailed 24-10.

Ball State led 34-22 at halftime and was never threatened in the second half.
