Vancouver police rushed to the corner of Northeast Andresen Road and Van Mall Drive on Monday night after a bystander and other people called 911 to report an attempted armed robbery at the IQ Credit Union, 7107 N.E. Van Mall Drive.

Officers ordered four teens onto the ground in the parking lot, handcuffed them and detained them for questioning, but it turned out it was just a verbal altercation in which no one was reported injured, said Officer Ilia Botvinnik with the Vancouver Police Department.

Botvinnik, a police spokesman and patrol officer, responded to the call.

Police were called at 6:40 p.m. Monday, found four young people in the parking lot and eventually learned they’d argued with two men in a car. One of the group on foot had allegedly brandished a knife when the two in the car started to get out. Someone said a gun may also have been displayed but none was found.

Officers removed the handcuffs and no one was arrested.

The two in the car had left the scene, and they later failed to come to the scene and describe what happened, as officers had requested, Botvinnik said.

In the end, officers couldn’t establish that a physical fight had occurred.

One of the young teens had been reported as a runaway, so Botvinnik took him home, he said.
