Hassell leads Old Dominion past High Point 79-57

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Frank Hassell scored 15 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked three shots for Old Dominion, which never trailed in a 79-57 victory over High Point on Monday night.

Trian Iliadis and Ben Finney added 12 points apiece for the Monarchs (1-1), who lost to 20th-ranked Georgetown 62-59 in their opener, and Keyon Carter had 10 points. Iliadis scored six of his points during a 20-4 run that increased Old Dominion’s lead to 42-16 with 4:17 left until halftime.

The Monarchs finished the half with a 48-23 lead after shooting 57.1 percent (16 of 28) to 24.1 percent (7 of 29) for the Panthers (1-1). Old Dominion led by as much as 35 points, 69-34, with 6:56 left.

Shay Shine scored 13 points and Nick Barbour 11 for High Point. Barbour, the preseason Big South Player of the Year, made just 4 of 16 shots, including 1 of 9 on 3-pointers.
