Miles: Top-ranked SEC team deserves BCS title shot

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU coach Les Miles says the top-ranked Southeastern Conference team should have an opportunity to play in the BCS title game because of how competitive the league has become on the national stage.

LSU won’t play in the SEC title game, but Miles says his experience tells him not to rule the fifth-ranked Tigers out of the national championship picture.

LSU has a chance to finish 11-1 and become the highest-ranked SEC team should Auburn stumble against Alabama and South Carolina in the SEC title game.

The coach says he could not have imagined getting a chance to play for the 2007 title before Missouri’s late-season defeat and West Virginia’s upset loss to Pittsburgh elevated LSU into the championship game.
