ORIGINAL MESSAGE BELOW

This evening, Saturday November 13, 2010 at approximately 10:23 p.m., Portland Police officers responded to the report of a motor vehicle crash involving two cars on the Morrison Bridge. Officers arrived along with medical personnel who began treating several injured people in both cars. One person died as a result of the crash.

Investigators from the Portland Police Bureau Major Crash Team learned that a gold 1995 Mercury Cougar, occupied with five people, was traveling westbound across the Morrison Bridge and apparently lost control on the steel grating in the middle of the bridge, causing the car to spin around and end up sliding backwards into the eastbound lanes where it was hit from behind by a white 2003 Honda Pilot, occupied only by the driver.

A rear passenger in the Cougar was killed and two others suffered non-life-threatening injuries requiring transport to an area hospital. The driver of the Honda also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

The Morrison Bridge was completely closed to all traffic for approximately three hours while investigators examined the scene and collected evidence.

At this point in the investigation, there have been no charges issued and no names will be released until the investigation is complete.
