MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (AP) — Investigators say two vehicles found in a central Ohio lake are likely unrelated to the search for three people who remain missing a day after a teenage girl who disappeared with them was rescued from a nearby home.

Authorities found the car and SUV on Monday as they searched for 32-year-old Tina Herrmann, her son, Kody Maynard, and her friend Stephanie Sprang. They’ve been missing since Wednesday.

The lake is in a park near the Mount Vernon home of Matthew J. Hoffman, where police say Herrmann’s 13-year-old daughter, Sarah Maynard, was found bound and gagged Sunday.

Hoffman has been charged with kidnapping. He’s jailed without bail and can’t be reached for comment. The local sheriff says Hoffman doesn’t have an attorney.

Sheriff David Barber calls Sarah “very brave.” He concedes the other people may be dead.
