Battle Ground Police officer struck in vehicle on SR 503

The vehicle driven by an on-duty Battle Ground Police officer was struck this morning on state Highway 503.

The police officer was not injured, according to a news release from the Battle Ground Police Department. The officer was not identified.

According to the bulletin, the officer was traveling southbound on SR 503 at about 5:15 a.m. to assist the Clark County Sheriff’s Office with an unspecified emergency in the 1100 block of Northwest 10th Avenue.

The officer located the subject, according to the bulletin, and was struck by a southbound vehicle while making a U-turn.

A 56-year-old Yacolt woman was driving the vehicle that struck the police car. She was treated and released from an area hospital.

The impact of the crash was strong enough to trigger the airbags in the woman’s vehicle. The police vehicle was struck near the driver’s side door.

The Washington State Patrol is investigating. Further details are being withheld until the investigation is completed.
