Furman holds on for 69-67 win over UNC Asheville

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Amu Saaka and Darryl Evans scored 14 points each and Furman held on for a 69-67 win over North Carolina-Asheville.

Noah States added 12 points, Brandon Sebirumbi 11 and Chris Toler chipped in 10 rebounds for the Paladins (2-0), who led 34-26 at halftime.

Furman held the Bulldogs (1-1) to 31 percent shooting (9 of 29) in the first half, and led by as many as 14, 25-11, on States’ 3-pointer with 7:57 remaining until halftime.

The Bulldogs, who finished with 17 second-chance points, scored 15 of those in the second half and improved their shooting to 41.9 percent (13 of 31) to keep it close after halftime.

After UNC Asheville pulled within 61-57 on J.P. Primm’s free throws with 1:07 to play, the Paladins went 8 of 10 from the free-throw line for the win.

Matt Dickey paced the Bulldogs with 26 points, D.J. Cunningham had 15 and Primm added 13.
