ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos have released former first-round pick Jarvis Moss, who never lived up to high expectations under coaches Mike Shanahan or Josh McDaniels.

Moss had just 40 tackles and 412 sacks in 33 games over 312 seasons in Denver after Shanahan used the 17th-overall pick of the 2007 draft to select him out of Miami.

He moved from defensive end to outside linebacker when McDaniels arrived last year and implemented a 3-4 scheme, but found no more success. His illegal block negated a late touchdown against San Francisco in the Broncos’ 24-16 loss in London last month.

Moss was released on the same day pass rusher Robert Ayers returned to practice for the first time since fracturing a foot against Baltimore on Oct. 10.
