Pilots of the 142nd Fighter Wing are conducting routine F-15 jet fighter night-flying training this week, according to the Oregon Military Department.

The training flights will be complete before 7 p.m. They started Tuesday night and are scheduled to finish Friday night.

The Oregon Air National Guard pilots are using the flights to stay current with mandatory requirements.

Night flying is done almost monthly to provide essential training for the use of night vision goggles and night-time maneuvers.

“Our pilots and maintenance crews maintain an alert mission 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and are required to maintain training currencies to do the mission day or night,” public affairs officer Maj. Melinda Lepore said Tuesday in a news release.
