PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for heavy snow in the Oregon Cascades through Thursday night.

Forecasters say the snow level is dropping to 1,500 feet and accumulations of 10-to-14 inches are expected.

Over the weekend, forecasters say Arctic air may filter into northwest Oregon for the coldest weather of the season so far, and possible valley snow.

KGW reports the Oregon Department of Transportation is putting shifts on standby starting Wednesday night in case snow hits Portland.
