BEREA, Ohio (AP) — No wonder Colt McCoy’s tough. He takes after his grandfather.

Cleveland’s rookie quarterback said his 78-year-old grandfather, Burl McCoy, is recovering from a broken sternum and ribs suffered when his tractor flipped over last week while he was working on the family farm in Brownwood, Texas.

Despite his serious injuries, the elder McCoy managed to turn off the tractor and walk to his house before calling for help. McCoy lovingly calls him “a tough ol’ man.”

Browns coach Eric Mangini credits Colt McCoy’s mental and physical toughness for his early success as a pro. McCoy will make his fifth straight start on Sunday at Jacksonville, a team that doesn’t blitz as much as his first four opponents.
