BEND, Ore. (AP) — The Deschutes County district attorney has appointed his successor to serve as a special prosecutor on a high-profile Oregon murder case.

Mike Dugan said district attorney-elect Patrick Flaherty will assist with the case of Lori “Woody” Blaylock, a 48-year-old Bend woman who disappeared late last month and is presumed dead.

And beginning next week, Dugan said Flaherty will be in his office, meeting with deputy district attorneys and other staff members about major cases, the office budget and other issues.

The Bulletin newspaper in Bend reported the announcements appeared to be a significant step forward in a transition that had become controversial in recent months with some conflicts between Dugan and Flaherty.
