St. Mary’s, Calif., tops Point Loma 101-69

MORAGA, Calif. (AP) — Tim Williams hit 8 of 9 shots and scored 23 points Thursday night to pace St. Mary’s, Calif., to a 101-69 victory over Point Loma Nazarene.

Williams also grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.

Matthew Dellavedova scored 18 points, Mickey McConnell 14 and Kenton Walker II 10 for the Gaels (3-0).

Hayden Lescault made 9 of his 13 shots, including 3 of 4 from 3-point range, and scored 22 points to lead the NAIA Sea Lions (2-2), for whom the game counted as an exhibition. No other Point Loma player reached double figures.

Stephen Holt and Clint Steindl of St. Mary’s each had seven rebounds.

The Gaels were hot from the floor, shooting 56.5 percent (35 of 62), making 12 of 30 3-pointers and hitting 19 of 22 free throws. They also had a 47-29 rebounding edge over the Sea Lions, who shot 40.0 percent (26 of 65).
