Harry Potter will cast his spell on Clark County movie fans this weekend in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1,” an adaptation of the first half of the series’ final book.

One “Potter” fan shared tips for braving the crowds and making the most of the seventh film’s opening weekend.

Josh McDougall, a 19-year-old Skyview High School graduate and student at Boise State University, lined up 15 hours early for the series’ sixth film, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.”

He didn’t line up that early for “Deathly Hallows” but said he planned on seeing the midnight showing before coming back to Vancouver and seeing the film again in the next five or so days.

McDougall’s theater of choice is Regal Cinema 99 Stadium 11 in Hazel Dell.

“It’s a local theater, it’s close by. They’ve never really let me down. Whenever I’ve gone to see a movie there, tickets are available, and there’s nothing really messed up with the audio or video.”

Fans looking to avoid the big crowds should think beyond their usual theaters, McDougall said.

He recommends Regal City Center 12, and said he has experienced fewer lines and packed theaters at the downtown Vancouver theater.

Wherever he sees it, McDougall plans on making the most of his “Harry Potter” experience, he said. He reads the series each summer and is excited to see how the events of the seventh “Harry Potter” book translate to the big screen.

“The world I’ve been reading about, it’s my chance to go out and see it and almost live it,” he said.
