More signs point to a better economy, except for those reading ‘Help Wanted’
Cheers: To a flurry of news suggesting that the economy is slowly improving, at least beyond Clark County. Private-sector employment in Washington has now grown for five consecutive months, according to the state’s acting chief economist. Another glimmer of hope: A new Washington State University survey of Seattle business executives showed a majority reported an increase in sales and hiring in the third quarter of this year. Though survey respondents were still somewhat uncertain about the economy, “Overall, key indices show more optimism than there has been for over a year,” said Andrew Casey of WSU’s School of Economic Sciences. Finally, Bloomberg News this week reported that lenders are easing access to credit for small businesses, which gives them access to the capital needed to expand.
