A 25-year-old man showing off a new gun fatally shot himself in the head early Saturday morning at a home in Vancouver, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Clark County Sheriff’s deputies and Vancouver Police officers were called at 2:52 a.m. Saturday to a house at 4213 N.E. 38th St. to a report of a possible suicide or accidental shooting.

They found the man dead in a back bedroom with a single gunshot wound to the head, according to a press release. His name was not released, pending notification of next of kin.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the man had been showing a newly purchased .357-caliber revolver to his friend when he shot himself, the press release said. Detectives with the Clark County Major Crimes Unit responded and are conducting the investigation.

The house was occupied at the time of the shooting by numerous adults who had been consuming alcohol at the time of the shooting, the press release said.
