DALLAS (AP) — Phil Martin scored 29 points, including nine in overtime, as UC Riverside held off a barrage of 3-point shots from SMU to win 73-69 Saturday.

Martin and SMU’s Rodney Clinkscales traded shots in overtime — Clinkscales had the first 10 points for the Mustangs in the extra period — before Martin hit a jump shot with 14 seconds left to put Riverside ahead 71-69. After a missed 3-pointer by Clinkscales, Kareem Nitoto added a pair free throws for Riverside (2-2) to clinch the victory.

Clinkscales finished with a career-high 19 points for SMU (1-3), which set school records for 3-point shots attempted (37) and made (16) in a game. The Mustangs attempted only 11 2-point baskets.

Javon Borum added 14 points for Riverside, including a jump shot with 25 seconds left in regulation that sent the game into overtime.

Jeremia Samarrippas had 15 points and seven assists for SMU.
