No. 17 Iowa State beats UNI 69-59

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — Freshman Hallie Christofferson scored 19 points on her 19th birthday and No. 19 Iowa State rallied to beat host Northern Iowa 69-59 on Sunday.

Senior Kelsey Bolte added 13 points for the Cyclones (3-0), who trailed 33-30 at halftime before overwhelming the Panthers in the second half.

Northern Iowa’s Katelin Oney pulled the Panthers within 53-51 on 3 with 4:44 left. But Christofferson answered with a layup, and the Cyclones scored their final 14 points at the free throw line to hold off Northern Iowa (2-1).

Jacqui Kalin scored 13 points and Amber Kirschbaum and Oney each had 11 for the Panthers, which led by as much as eight in the first half.

Chelsea Poppens had 10 points for Iowa State, which will head to the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands this week to face Virginia, TCU and West Virginia.
