Pasco biomass plant says it will reopen

PASCO, Wash. (AP) — A Pasco biomass company says it plans to reopen this week despite financial and legal troubles.

Green Power was evicted in September from its Port of Pasco plant. The state Department of Ecology also ordered it to close because it had not gotten an air quality permit. A state labor official also says the company still owes back wages.

Company owner Michael Spitzauer says he plans to open the plant this week and begin hiring up to 500 workers.

The company sells a technology it says will turn garbage into diesel fuel.

The Port of Pasco last week was waiting to sign a new lease with Green Power. But the Tri-City Herald reports Spitzauer hadn’t done so by late Friday afternoon.
