COLFAX, Wash. (AP) — Whitman County deputies are searching for an inmate who escaped Saturday evening with 18 days left on his prison sentence.
Whitman County Sheriff Brett Myers says 29-year-old Ronald A. Rutledge walked away while working on an “outside maintenance chore” at the jail.
Myers says Rutledge was serving a 4-month sentence for burglary.
KXLY-TV reports deputies believe he is hiding out in the Dayton, Wash. area.
