SEATTLE (AP) — Seattle police say three SWAT officers have fatally shot an armed man in a car.
Deputy Chief Nick Metz says firefighters responding to a call about a man slumped over the steering wheel of a parked car backed off when the man pulled out a handgun Monday afternoon.
Metz says the man refused SWAT officers’ commands to drop the gun. He adds that at one point the man raised the gun “in a direction the officers took as threatening” and all three officers fired multiple shots. The unidentified man died at the scene.
Based on what the man told firefighters, Metz says the man “may have been suicidal.”
