BALTIMORE (AP) — Vince Goldsberry scored four of his 15 points in overtime and Coppin State defeated Maryland-Baltimore County 71-69 on Tuesday night.
The Eagles (1-2) scored the first four points of the extra period to take a 71-67 lead on Goldsberry’s layup with 1:57 left.
The Retrievers (0-4) went 0 for 4 from the field in overtime with three of those coming on 3-pointers. UMBC also was 0 of 4 from the free-throw line after regulation.
Michael Harper scored 21 points for Coppin State and Antonio Williams added 14.
UMBC’s Chris De La Rosa, who missed a field goal and two free throws in the extra session, hit a 3 with 2 seconds left in regulation to send it into overtime 67-67.
De La Rosa scored 14 points, had 11 assists and tallied nine rebounds to come one board short of the school’s second triple-double. Travis King finished with 20 points for the Retrievers.
