BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — Bellingham Fire Chief Bill Boyd says an Albertson’s grocery store was evacuated after witnesses noticed that a section of the roof was sagging.
Boyd says customers were ushered out of the store Tuesday as soon as the problem was noticed and employees called 911.
The chief says fire crews determined that a 20-foot by 10-foot section of the roof near the back of the main grocery sales area had sunk about one foot. A city building official and fire inspector are evaluating the roof’s stability but did not immediately determine the cause of the damage.
The Bellingham Herald says it wasn’t immediately known when the store would reopen.
