Williams leads Richmond past Southern U 81-40

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Freshman Derrick Williams scored 16 points and Richmond held Southern University to nine points in the first half in an 81-40 rout on Tuesday.

Richmond (4-1) has won 21 of the last 22 games in the Robins Center. The Spider’s bench outscored Southern’s bench 40-14, dominating their opponent in the paint to outscore the Jaguars 36-14.

Kevin Anderson finished with 11 points, shooting 3 for 5 from the beyond the arc for Richmond.

The Spiders never trailed in the contest, holding Southern (1-5) to 12 percent shooting from the floor (3 for 24) in the first half. For the game, Richmond made 51.7 percent of its field goal attempts (31 for 60).

The Jaguars did not have a player to score in double figures. Quinton Doggett led the Jaguars with eight points and nine rebounds.
