Western Illinois beats Prairie View 69-63

CANCUN, Mexico (AP) — Matt Lander scored 19 points and Jack Houpt added 16 points to lead Western Illinois to a 69-63 win over Prairie View on Wednesday in the Cancun Challenge.

Houpt, who was 5 for 9 from beyond the arc, helped the Leathernecks (3-3) knock down 12 3-pointers for the game. Ceola Clark III finished with 11 points and eight assists.

Landers, who led Western Illinois with 14 points in Tuesday’s loss, was 5-of-8 shooting from the floor and made 7-of-11 shots from the free-throw line.

Western Illinois held a 37-25 lead at halftime. The Leathernecks went on to shoot 51 percent (21 for 41) from the floor for the game, holding the Panthers (1-6) to 34 percent shooting (22 for 63).

Trant Simpson led Prairie View with 16 points, shooting 6 for 23 from the floor. Duwan Kornegay had 11 points and Brandon Webb added 10 in the loss.
