Vancouver man hurt in Gearhart, Ore., crash

SERIOUS INJURY TRAFFIC CRASH – HIGHWAY 101 IN GEARHART

Two people were injured, one seriously, in a two-vehicle traffic crash Thanksgiving afternoon in Gearhart at the intersection of Highway 101 and Gearhart Avenue. One of the drivers was cited by Oregon State Police (OSP) as a result of the investigation.

According to OSP Trooper Dennis Thomas, on November 25, 2010 at approximately 5:20 p.m. a 2006 Chrysler 300 driven by BRITT A. CUTRIGHT, age 21, from Columbia City, attempted to turn left from Gearhart Avenue onto northbound Highway 101. The Chrysler was struck in the driver side by a southbound 1999 Cadillac Deville driven by MARION J. PIERCE, age 74, from Seaside.

CUTRIGHT and PIERCE were not injured.

There were four passengers in the Chrysler, two of which were injured. JESSICA D. LUFKIN, age 18, from St. Helens, was transported by ground ambulance to Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland with serious injuries. CODY LUFKIN, age 29, from Vancouver, Washington was treated and released with minor injury. The other two passengers, ages 19 and 21, both from St. Helens, were not injured.

All occupants of both vehicles were using safety restraints. Airbags deployed in both vehicles.

Thomas cited CUTRIGHT for Dangerous Left Turn.

OSP troopers from the Astoria Area Command office were assisted at the scene by Gearhart police and fire departments. The highway was closed about one hour.
