No. 14 Tar Heels rout Washington State

HONOLULU (AP) — Italee Lucas scored 21 points, Jessica Breland added 19 and Chay Shegog had 18 to help No. 14 North Carolina rout Washington State on Friday in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown.

The Tar Heels trio combined to go 25-of-44 from the field.

Tierra Ruffin-Pratt had 11 points and nine rebounds, and Laura Broomfield added eight points and 10 rebounds for North Carolina (5-0). The Tar Heels held a 62-43 rebounding advantage and outscored the Cougars 62-20 in the paint.

North Carolina started the game on a 9-0 run, and scored the final 13 points of the first half for a 46-20 lead.

The Tar Heels’ largest lead was 91-52 after a layup by Broomfield off an assist from Krista Gross with 1:39 left.

Carly Noyes scored 11 points for Washington State (0-5), which shot just 21-of-76 from the field.
