EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan State center Derrick Nix has rejoined the team in a mutual decision after he met with teammates and coaches.

Nix practiced with the second-ranked Spartans on Friday and Saturday. He will be available to play Sunday against Tennessee Tech.

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo said last week Nix wouldn’t be with the team during the Maui Invitational. The Spartans missed his presence inside in a semifinal loss to Connecticut.

The 6-foot-9, 270-pound Nix started 16 games as a freshman last season, then lost almost 20 pounds in the offseason. He was Michigan’s Mr. Basketball two years ago at Detroit Pershing High School.

Nix was sparingly used in the first two games of the season.
