ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — Lindsey Vonn has skied off course and failed to finish the first run of a World Cup giant slalom.

The three-time overall World Cup champion drifted too wide in the upper part of the course Saturday and couldn’t recover to make a gate.

Viktoria Rebensburg of Germany leads after the first run with a time of 1 minute, 2.11 seconds. Julia Mancuso of the U.S. was 0.03 back in second place after a nearly flawless run. Tanja Poutiainen of Finland was in third, .07 behind.

Germany’s Kathrin Hoelzl won the Aspen event last year. She is more than a second behind Rebensburg.

Vonn has never finished on the podium in a World Cup giant slalom. The American also failed to qualify for the second run last year in Aspen.
