Blood donors can earn movie admission

It’s a perfect “Twilight” trinity.

Give up some blood — on Friday the 13th — and earn a free pass to a special screening of the new film “New Moon,” the latest in the popular teen vampire saga.

A Southwest Washington Blood Program bloodmobile will be parked from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday next to First Independent Bank, 601 W. Main St. in Battle Ground.

Donors (minimum age 16, weight 110 pounds) will receive a ticket for the 11:59 p.m. showing of “New Moon” on Nov. 20 at Battle Ground Cinemas.

Tickets also may be purchased for $9 each at the library branch, 1207 S.E. Eighth Way, 360-687-2322, or through the library Friends group, at 360-666-5865.

Most proceeds go to help fund the new Battle Ground Community Library. Support also comes from First Independent Bank.

CLARK COUNTY

Sheriff’s Office offers boating safety classes

It’s not too soon to reserve seats in boating safety classes offered by the Marine Patrol Unit of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The eight-hour classes, called Adventures in Boating, will help students obtain boater-education cards that are being phased in under state law.

Beginning Jan. 1, for example, those ages 12 to 30 must carry the cards while operating boats with 15 horsepower or more, according to a bulletin from Deputy Todd Baker.

The classes will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on two Saturdays, Nov. 21 and Dec. 12, at the sheriff’s west precinct office at 505 N.W. 179th St., near the fairgrounds.

The $10 fee includes the manual and test. It’s free for kids under 18 with a parent.

There’s more information at parks.wa.gov/boating.

Register with Baker: 360-397-2106 or todd.baker@clark.wa.gov.
