Outdoor market celebrates a birthday; B.G. spends $780,000, only to get a red light
Cheers: To the Vancouver Farmers Market, which recently completed its 20th season. Those two decades have featured impressive growth, from about 65 vendors and about 1,500 shoppers in the early years of a market at the brick arches on downtown’s Fifth Street to the modern standards: 200-plus vendors and 20,000 friendly folks on a typical Saturday at the sprawling market just west of Esther Short Park. Local residents have learned that the seasonal Vancouver Farmers Market is more than just a good place to buy produce grown by local and area farmers; it’s also a great place to shop for crafts and to enjoy the simple but enlightening pastime of people-watching.

State cites previous alcohol use by Sheila Michalios
Six weeks before Sheila K. Michalios made news when police said she was found passed out in her minivan with two small children inside, her child care license was revoked. The license of the 45-year-old Yacolt woman, who pleaded not guilty Thursday to two counts of reckless endangerment, had been suspended immediately, followed by a complete revocation 28 days after the Sept. 10 notification by the department. That meant she was not authorized to run a child care business at the time of the incident.
